According to Berry Buzan it defines security as a pursuit of freedom from threats. The securitisation often leads to the circulation of power and money for protecting the asset and preserving it. From an example we see that in 2016 the death toll globally crossed almost 120,000 as a result from traffic incidents, but if you look at the death toll of terrorism it was only 10,000. The reason for it is that traffic laws are not securitised but on the same side if you see terrorism it is highly securitised. A very large amount of wealth is being invested to reduce the threat of terrorism. There isn’t any suitable way present for differentiating the real security issues from non-security ones.

We often see check posts around us, but in reality security is the relationship between human beings. Have you ever noticed that whenever we go away from the things that are precious to us we do some measures for its safety before living, this is because we feel insecure from others. Insecurity is actually the experience of different people in different situations. People consider security as a basic human right. Every individual has its own definition of security. The people who live in terrorism effected countries will have different definition than those people who aren’t effect by this threat as much. So, security is the personal interpretation of an individual. Copenhagen School said that real referent objects should be people, not states.

Now, let’s discuss about security: social threats are of different types like physical threats, economic threats, mental threats etc. From here we can clearly see that the definition of security is different. Let’s take example of North Korea nuclear weapons, these are less than that of UK’s. According to the theory of securitisation: they create a threat in their mind and securitisation actor’s help them to believe that it’s a real threat. Let’s say that half of the population of Pakistan lives below the poverty line. So, instead of increasing budget for such people we are increasing our budget for army and weapons every year. The reason for it is that we consider India a threat or some others as well. The same thing is happening in India. Copenhagen School assumes non-military issues aren’t really a threat to the state and its people. In International politics the meaning of security is setup by political actors, state officials, communities etc. So, the meaning of security in global politics can be considered as an event that is carried out by various state and political actors.
